He’s one of us. He’s an everyman. He just likes cool cars because they’re cool. He knows all kinds of crazy car stuff because that’s the plight of the true enthusiast.

It was this video that got me. And I only just noticed he’s wearing a plain grey shirt with a Nissan S-Cargo on it. He’s such a legit car nerd.

Say what you will about quirks’n’features, about how he’s a not-quite celebrity or how his vids have questionable production values. He’s found something that works and lets him spend his time driving and talking about awesome cars, which I would quit my job for tomorrow if I could. He comes across as a nice, honest, smart dude and he’s killing it.

Compared to most of the assholes doing car stuff on Youtube, he’s got me.

I agree with most of this. The Everyman part? Nope. Every man does not own a Ford GT. But if every man did own a GT...? I want to live in that world.

I don’t think he does that so much. Certainly not as annoying as Tav or as “watch me be dumb” as Hoovy. Actually it seems he’s just been buying things he thinks the internet wants to see rather than making bad decisions.

There’s some merit to that, combined with his history of Astons and Mercs and Ferraris. But to me, he seems more like a guy who works hard and lives frugal and finances fancy cars that won’t depreciate. I can relate, I don’t think he’s as well off as those purchases would imply on the surface.

Because they imply he’s a millionaire.

I agree. I think he’d have a lot more (wealth) had he put his money into investments or real estate but then he wouldn’t be Doug. He’d be someone chasing the dollar when Doug is chasing the ultimate auto.
